Employment
Connecting people with disability to job opportunities and improving employer readiness.
Overcoming barriers
Every Australian has the right to meaningful, open employment.
Work has positive benefits for everyone. We know that having a job you find satisfying improves your financial situation, your community relationships, and your sense of purpose.
Australians with disability experience high levels of unemployment and underemployment due to negative attitudes about their capability, productivity, and safety in the workplace. The Achieve Foundation is working to change these outcomes.
In collaboration with disability leaders, we’ve designed an employment model that:
values the lived experience and expertise of people with disability
connects job seekers with disability to open and meaningful employment opportunities
works with organisations to improve employer readiness.
We are currently trialing the model with our employment partners.
“The most rewarding part is that I actually get to make a difference with people who are disabled like me.”
— Emma O’Keefe
Real world change
Employing people with a disability benefits the whole workplace
Rocket Careers is our flagship inclusive employment initiative. It provides:
guidance on inclusive employment practices, for those employers who want to build their capability
connections to training and employment supports for job seekers with disability
referrals between jobseekers and employers, matching jobseeker interests to roles in inclusive employers in the care and support sector.

Disability Leaders
The design of Rocket Careers has been led by a Steering Committee, chaired by a person with disability, and with significant representation from across the disability community. The project team delivering the Catalyst and Rocket Careers are also people with disability.
